Kailua-Kona, Hawaii
The charming town of Kona, officially called Kailua-Kona, is located on the western shore of the big island of Hawaii. The White Sands Village condo rental is about 12 miles from the airport and 4 miles south of the center of Kona. Along that waterfront drive from Kona, you'll find any kind of restaurant or shop that you might desire, as well as various evening entertainment. Many establishments in Kona offer whale watching tours, sportfishing and other boating adventures, sunset dinner cruises, sumptuous luaus, or sightseeing tours by air. On a wall outside "Hooters Restaurant" you'll find spectacular photos called "granders" which are pictures of not one or two but several fish weighing over 1,000 pounds caught in the waters off Kona!
A pleasant beachfront restaurant is right across the street from the condo. Near White Sands Village is the very best snorkeling beach of any of the Hawaiian Islands, where you'll also find giant sea turtles swimming alongside you or sunning themselves on the beach. If you are lucky, you might even see the spouting of a passing whale out as sea. A small shopping center with a supermarket is 5 minutes away. Golf is available nearby.
Small family owned coffee and macadamia plantations are nestled among the lush tropical vegetation of the steep hillsides of the Big Island. The owners are happy to give you a personal tour of the grounds and operation.
There are beautiful white sand beaches to the northwest, canyons to the north, and rainforests and waterfalls near Hilo. You'll find black sand beaches and even a green sand beach to the south, along with the still active Kilauea crater at Volcanoes National Park.
